72 hours in Tulum

Tulum has always fascinated us. It's a magical place with a unique vibe, beautiful nature, excellent food, a good atmosphere and lots of hippie-chic boutiques. It is definitely worth a visit. Therefore we want to bring you a little closer to this paradise set in the middle of the jungle and introduce you Tulum in 72 hours. For starters, it is good to know that it consists of two places: the town down by the sea, where the hotels and most of the good restaurants are located, and the village which is about 2 km from the coast.

After a delicious breakfast at Don Cafeto's, make time for a visit to the ruins. There are several Maya cities on the Riviera Maya. Chichén Itzá, the most famous of them, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Tulum itself also has impressive ruins, some of which are located directly on the beautiful Caribbean coast. If you go early in the morning, you can avoid the many tourists in the afternoon. Locals especially recommend the Coba ruins. The whole area is very extensive and measures approximately 70 km2. The best thing to do is to rent a bike to explore the breathtaking landscapes and ruins. It is a huge jungle, in the middle of which you can find various pyramids. One of these is called El Castillo, which is 42 meters high and older than the one in Chichen Itza. We highly recommend climbing up the 120 steps, since you have a wonderful view of the jungle landscape atop. If your stomach starts growling after this eventful morning, we advise you to check out "Burrito Amor". The prices are fair and it's by far the best burrito in town. After this refreshment, we suggest you a shopping spree through the village. You shouldn't miss the “Pura Vida Tulum” shop where you can find our MOCHIL bags and other nice souvenirs. The best place to end the afternoon is "Batay Tulum” where the most delicious mojitos are served.

Saturday

To get back on track in the morning, we recommend breakfast at 'Hotel Holistika", a magical place that is absolutely worth waiting for a table. Do not forget to pack your bathing suit either. You will need it in the Laguna Kaan Lum in the nearby national park or in one of the many cenotes. If you prefer it a little more luxurious, we advise you to go to one of the hotels on the beach. It is good to know that the prices there are roughly the same as in Switzerland. If you want to save a buck or two, we recommend a visit to «La Eufemia», a hippie beach club that serves delicious tacos in a unique setting. To round off the day, we would indulge our taste buds in one of the following restaurants: “Gitano”, “Casa Jaguar”, “Hartwood”, “Casa Banana”, “Posada Margherita” or the “Rosa Negra”. Powered by the delicious dinner, you certainly have enough energy to explore Tulum's nightlife, because it has a lot to offer. You should definitely visit the “Casa Jugar”, “Gitano” or the full moon party at the “Papaya Playa Project”.

Sunday

After a night of partying, tacos and beer will get you back on track. The best can be found at the “Taqueria Honorio”. The food truck is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, it can happen that there are no more tacos after 1 p.m. We therefore recommend that you go early and order a Michelada or a Clamato. Of course, the beer shouldn't be missing. We would spend the last hours at the heavenly beach. We promise you will love Tulum!
