Women Power in Mexico

Have you ever wondered how we are organized at MOCHIL? In addition to the founder Karina who runs operations in Switzerland we have Marina taking care of business in Mexico. There is not only one, but two women in management positions in our company - A fact, we are really proud of. We had a little chat with Marina about she perceives business life in Mexico. She has been working for us for a year now and is in charge of all the logistics. Furthermore, she is expanding the Mexican market and is taking care of all to-dos on site. The two friends met at a young age during their apprenticeship and have been close friends ever since. During Karina's gap year in Mexico, Marina came to visit. It just so happened that she fell in love and subsequently left Switzerland. Thanks to herwealth of experience, Marina is now MOCHIL’s go-to person in Mexico.

For Marina, it is the versatility of the new culture and the connection to her homeland that inspired her about MOCHIL. She is proud to have created jobs and supported people in need - especially in times of Corona. These circumstances motivate her to keep pushing MOCHIL forward every day. She also greatly appreciates the opportunity to work for an international firm. In her professional everyday life she works with people from all walks of life and industries and starts new projects with them. In doing so, she learned that not everything that works in Switzerland also works in Mexico. As a rule, you need a little more time and patience in Mexico. Things that we take for granted in Switzerland are very different in Mexico. The work sometimes may take a bit longer. A fact, which can affect the planning and especially the planning period.

The structures of the meetings are also very different to the ones back home. It can happen that the customer’s punctuality leaves a lot to be desired, even though this is exactly what they expect of you in return. A typical meeting starts with small talk before the actual business is made. In her experience, such rules are important to abide by, otherwise you may not be able to get the deal done. So, the more important the business, the more important the small talk in advance. In Switzerland it works in a very different way. We tend to be more up-front and address our needs rather quickly. Another thing Marina had to learn the hard way was that the meetings shouldn’t take place too early in the morning, otherwise people won't show up. In Mexico a lot is based on trust. Making business is therefore much less formal than in Switzerland. A circumstance that, in her opinion, clearly promotes innovation. All in all, Marina would describe the Mexican mentality with the following three words: Just Do It!
